The BTEC Higher National Diploma (HND) in Counselling and Applied Psychology aims to cultivate highly skilled professionals equipped with a strong foundation in psychological theory and practical counselling skills. It combines theoretical understanding with supervised practice, preparing graduates for further study or direct entry into careers within the counselling and mental health sectors.

The program is structured into two levels, covering both core and advanced counselling and psychology modules:

Level 4 Modules

Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following categories:

  • Category 1: Successful completion of GCE A/L (Local or London) with minimum passes.
  • Category 2: Completed A/L but with fewer than two simple passes – subject to evaluation exam.
  • Category 3: O/L qualified applicants:
    • Under 19 years: Required to complete Pearson Level 3 Foundation Diploma.
    • Over 19 years: Must sit for evaluation examination to assess readiness.

In addition, all applicants must meet the Pearson English language proficiency requirements.
Pearson accepts a range of English competency qualifications, including IELTS (minimum overall score of 5.5), or equivalent qualifications as listed in the relevant Pearson Higher National specifications.

Duration: 18 – 20 Months (Weekend Program)

Mode: Blended Learning (Hybrid – Online & On-campus)

Assessments & Evaluations

  • Internally assessed assignments (Pearson-set and internal)
  • Practice-based assessments
  • Practical and Reflective Evidence Portfolio (PREP)
  • Work placement requirements (minimum 170 hours: 100 hours at Level 4 and 70 hours at Level 5, with at least 35 hours of direct counselling practice at Level 5)
  • Grading: Pass, Merit, Distinction
